My favorite website is Pinterest. Besides being extremely original, I am obsessed with almost everything offered on Pinterest, from fashion to fitness to recipes. I heard somewhere that Pinterest must have been created by men to get women to cook, clean and work out. Whether it was created for this purpose or not, I guess it's working.
Pinterest is the best way to waste time while feeling like you are actually being productive. The website displays a simple, clean design of tall blocks of all different heights that sit neatly on top of and beside each other, like a brick wall rotated on its side. Each block is an image with a caption, and this image can be virtually anything appropriate. They are usually images that inspire ideas, projects, listing tips, instructions, or virtually anything under the sun. You can create different "pin boards" to save and sort images (referred to as "pinning") that you see on your home page. From there, your followers will see what you pinned, and they will have the option to pin them onto one of their pin boards.
This website is, to say the least, addicting. I can spend a ridiculous amount of time with a cereal bowl in front of my computer screen pinning different workouts that I will probably never do and recipes that I only have a 25% chance of using. I can pin interior design ideas, quotes that interest me, outfits I like, cleaning tips that I desperately need and cute puppies just because I can.
Whoever created this website is genius. Its simplicity makes the website itself seem to disappear and it becomes all about the information on the screen. I feel like I am learning while I am actually just wasting time clicking around on my computer, so it makes me feel good about myself and my moment of doing absolutely nothing.
Pinterest is amazing! I would be lying if I said I didn't pinterest myself from time to time. However, if you tell anyone, I will lie... yes that is right... I will lie to their face and deny it until I am dead. Anyway, I think the websites that immerse me the most are the ones that I enjoy the most because they allow me to forget about all of my stresses and cares and focus instead on all of the things I would like to be doing if only I had more time...Well, that statement was ironic.
ReplyDeleteI feel bad Jason's the only comment after last class, so I'm intergroup messaging! Your writing is funny to read. Kudos to you for the humor, and pinterest is pretty great <3 Equally amusing is looking up "pinterest fails"

^ Like these adorable bunnies!
Your justification for time spent on your favorite website is about the best I've seen, Chelsi. It works just as well for my favorite site (dull and boring washingtonpost.com). I could pat myself on the back for nurturing informed opinions, but I know it has a lot more to do with the pure joy of getting pissed off at politicians who disagree with me.
ReplyDeleteI don't use pinterest much, but when I do, I confess I mostly pin recipes and kid stuff, like different ways of making washable paint and home-made playdough. It's a great site for sharing.
